#New-Year #Resolution

I wish you all a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year
New Year’s resolutions are a bit like babies: They’re fun to make but extremely difficult to maintain. Well, there you have it – an extensive list of advice, tips and tricks to help you see your New Year’s resolution through and make some long-term changes in your life.                1 2 3 New Year offers 101 amazing New Year Resolution  ideas.
Each January, roughly one in three Indians resolve to better themselves in some way. A much smaller percentage of people actually make good on those resolutions. While about 75% of people stick to their goals for at least a week, less than half (46%) are still on target six months later.
1. Get in shape: Losing weight is the top resolution for everyone, and combined with “exercise more” and “stay fit and healthy” it is something that over a third of the population wishes to achieve. It’s easy enough to start an exercise and diet program, but the trick is to find a decent one that will give you steady results and will be easy to stick to in the long run. Take the stairs instead of elevators and escalators to get daily exercise.Walk or ride your bike more often instead of driving. Select a regime you can stick to. A group activity may add the element of fun to the routine. Lose some flab. But don’t set any strict target, for then the chances are you may get de-motivated and quit.
2. Start eating healthier food, and less food overall: Think before you put any morsel in your mouth. Occasional indulgence should be there. If you’ve resolved to lose weight or get a six pack, you’ll definitely want to drop the fast food habit cold turkey. It can be hard because all of the fat, sugars, and chemical additives make it darn near addictive. Switching to a healthier diet can be incredibly tricky when we are surrounded by cheap junk food. However, with a good amount of determination and some basic tips you can slowly develop healthier eating habits.
3. Stop procrastinating: The biggest barrier that keeps most people from reaching their goals is the desire to relax and do something fun instead of working hard. Perhaps there’s lots of things on this list that you’ve already promised yourself you’d stop or start doing, but you just haven’t gotten around to doing it. At some point you’ve got to make it your priority and make time for it.Once you get used to procrastinating it’s difficult to snap yourself out of it, so you’ll need to put in a lot of work to change this bad habit
4. Stay in touch When we get stuck in a rut, we usually end up staying at home most of the time, missing out on a lot of interesting opportunities for networking and having fun. Research suggests people with strong social ties live longer than those who don’t. In fact, a lack of social bonds can damage your health as much as alcohol abuse and smoking, and even more than obesity and lack of exercise, a 2010 study in the journal PLoS Medicine suggests. In a technology-fixated era, it’s never been easier to stay in touch—or rejuvenate your relationship—with friends and family, so fire up Facebook and follow up with in-person visits.
5. Become more active: Some people don’t really have a big weight problem, and they even get some exercise a few times a week, but they just sit around the most of the time at home and at work, which can have a negative effect on their posture and health. In that case, all you need is to find ways of moving around more throughout the day instead of staying hunched over the computer. It’s even more fun if you share your activity with friends and family
6. Earn more money: Even billionaires are always looking for ways to earn more money, and we common folk can definitely use an additional source of income to make life a bit more comfortable. Fortunately there are plenty of options available, like having side jobs, working as a freelancer or using the internet to your advantage. Splurge is fun, but saving should be the way of living. Plan with your future in mind. Relax the grip once in a while for that blissful indulgence. But should be just one or two annual affair.
7. Reduce stress: They say that stress is one of the biggest killers out there, and it can have a very destructive effect on your relationships as well as your health. It may be an unavoidable side effect of our hectic modern lifestyles, but it can be effectively managed with the help of useful, unconventional and easy to practice tricks for stress management. – This sounds easier than it actually is, and there is no magic tip. You have to find your own haven. A little pressure now and again won’t kill us; in fact, short bouts of stress give us an energy boost. But if stress is chronic, it can increase your risk of—or worsen—insomnia, depression, obesity, heart disease, and more.
Long work hours, little sleep, no exercise, poor diet, and not spending time with family and friends can contribute to stress."Stress is an inevitable part of life,". "Relaxation, sleep, socializing, and taking vacations are all things we tell ourselves we deserve but don’t allow ourselves to have."
8. Learn to be happier with your life: Even those that are in decent shape, make a good living and have stress under control can still be unhappy. It takes time and patience to learn how to find joy in the little things and not to let problems bring you down. Vow to always view the glass to be half full. This will help you solve any obstacle you may face in life. This is a pretty vague goal, and since it’s putting pressure on yourself to stop doing something that’s hard to control, it’s doubly hard. Worrying about how much you worry is no solution. Instead, why not resolve yourself to get more massages, or pet your cat more.
9. Get more quality sleep: With big TV’s, computers, smartphones, tablets and all sorts of gadgets with glowing lights and beeping alerts, it can be hard to get enough sleep at night. You should be gunning for at least 8 hours of sleep a night, and there are fairly simple ways to achieve this number if you make use of science and everyday hacks. You probably already know that a good night’s rest can do wonders for your mood—and appearance. But sleep is more beneficial to your health than you might realize.
A lack of sleep has been linked to a greater risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes. And sleep is crucial for strengthening memories (a process called consolidation). So take a nap—and don’t feel guilty about it. Sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your well-being, but many of us stay up into the wee hours, and wake up before we’re fully rested. Try following the circadian rhythm by getting to bed early and waking up early. You’ll notice a big improvement right away.
10. Quit cigarettes: A bit of bad habit that a lot of people don’t know how to kick, smoking will not only endanger your health, but can burn a hole in your wallet as well. Just be prepared to dedicate a lot of will power to giving up cigarettes once and for all. Fear that you’ve failed too many times to try again? Talk to any ex-smoker, and you’ll see that multiple attempts are often the path to success.
Try different methods to find out what works. And think of the cash you’ll save! (We know you know the ginormous health benefit.)
"It’s one of the harder habits to quit," says Merle Myerson, MD, director of the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program at St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals, in New York City. "But I always tell people to think of how much money they will save."
11. Watch less TV: The average person wastes a lot of time in front of the TV, time that could have been better spent developing skills, learning or keeping your body active. Once you manage to cut down on TV time, you will realize just how long and productive a day can really be. The boob tube has claimed countless hours of human potential. Only you have the power to unplug.
12. Read more: Books are an excellent way to gain a lot of knowledge on a huge variety of topics, and are also a great exercise for your brain. It’s not that difficult to go through 20 or more books in a year – you only need to make it a habit, discover your type of books and find a bit of time for reading here and there. With so much entertainment and infotainment streaming at us these days, books seem to be getting less attention than they once did. But many people still put this one down as a resolution. So whether you’re reading non-fiction to learn something, or getting lost in a piece of fiction, choose something that interests you and tackle it head on.
13. Learn how to dress with style: The way you dress can say a lot about you, and wearing the right clothes can make you seem powerful and confident, which in turn can help you land a job, get promoted, and catch the eye of a lovely guy or girl. No matter if you’re male or female, know the dress code and live with style. Between having to dress according to your employer’s dress code and following the conventional fashion of today’s apparel shops, you might have lost that part of you that wants to come out. Do an overhaul of your wardrobe and start wearing things that make you feel good.
14. Spend more time with the people that matter: There is just too little time in this life for us to waste it on insincere, duplicitous and toxic people. We should focus on the people who we care about deeply and who care about us, as this is the best way to stay happy.
15. Quit drinking or drink in moderation :  While it is completely safe and healthy to drink one or two servings of an alcoholic beverage of your choice per day, not a lot of people can say that they can follow this rule effectively. Getting your drinking under control has plenty of benefits, but it can be a difficult process. While much has been written about the health benefits of a small amount of alcohol, too much tippling is still the bigger problem. (In fact, binge drinking seems to be on the rise.)Drinking alcohol in excess affects the brain’s neurotransmitters and can increase the risk of depression, memory loss, or even seizures.
Chronic heavy drinking boosts your risk of liver and heart disease, hypertension, stroke, and mental deterioration, and even cancers of the mouth, throat, liver, and breast. Most people are aware of the damaging effects of drinking alcohol, especially binge drinking, but we do it anyway. Even cutting back on how often you drink, or how much you drink in one sitting can have benefits to your body and brain. It will not take you anywhere good, trust us. If it does you no good, why stick to it? If needed, seek help of support groups or professionals. If you have the will, you shall find the way.
16. Get out of debt: You can’t really move forward in life if you are weighed down by debt. The road to financial freedom is a rocky one, but it is definitely manageable with a bit of planning and self-restraint. Pay off any debt you may have and feel light at heart. Take a look at these strategies and methods and pay off your debt. You won’t believe how good it will feel. Debt can be a huge monkey on your back which causes you to lose sleep and takes you out of enjoying the present moment. There are plenty of books and resources on how to eliminate debt. Develop a plan of attack and stick to it.
17. Start saving money: Once you have your debt under control, it’s time to start putting some money aside. A rainy day fund and some extra money that can go towards traveling abroad, fixing up the house or buying a new car are a welcome change of pace. Make use of these hacks and apps to save money efficiently. Save money by making healthy lifestyle changes. Walk or ride your bike to work, or explore carpooling. (That means more money in your pocket and less air pollution.)
Take stock of what you have in the fridge and make a grocery list. Aimless supermarket shopping can lead to poor choices for your diet and wallet. In a turbulent economy it both more important and harder to squirrel some money away for a rainy or rainier day, or for your retirement. But even putting away a small amount of money each week or each month can add up over the long run, and can be the difference between having some cash in a pinch or having the retirement you really want.
18. Learn a new language: Not only will learning a new language help improve your communication skills, it will also look great on your resume and possibly open up some doors for you. These days there are plenty of resources that allow you to learn a language for free and in your spare time. This is one of the best ways to access a new culture, and also a way to keep your brain sharp as it ages. It gives you another set of paintbrushes with which to paint out the thoughts in your head, and if you end up traveling to a new destination it helps immensely if you can speak some of the language.
19. Volunteer and give more to charity: To devote your time and energy to helping those in need is a noble gesture and a reward in itself, but it is also an opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and boost your resume. Here’s how you can find time to volunteer in your busy life. We tend to think our own bliss relies on bettering ourselves, but our happiness also increases when we help others.
And guess what? Happiness is good for your health. A 2010 study found that people with positive emotions were about 20% less likely than their gloomier peers to have a heart attack or develop heart disease. Other research suggests that positive emotions can make people more resilient and resourceful.
20. Pick up useful skills or fun hobbies: Just sitting around all day won’t get you anywhere. It is much better to use your free time in a constructive manner and pick up new skills while having fun at the same time. Learning something new and interesting is always fun and a value addition too. You don’t even have to know exactly which hobby you want to start, just start something. If you find out that you don’t really like it, you can always switch. If you find that you do like it you can delve into it as far as you want to go.
21. Adopt a cute pet: There are tons of animal lovers out there that would be great at caring for a pet, but they often overthink things, while some people just rush out and get a pet without understanding the responsibility involved. Be sure you know what you are in for and find a pet that fits your living conditions and lifestyle. The devotion, love and loyalty of a pet can never be matched. Feel the bliss by giving one a home. Even though they can be a lot of work, having a dog, cat, or other pet in the home has been proven to lower blood pressure, and keep you happier more of the time.
22. Become more organized: It doesn’t matter how much time you have on your hands if you can’t manage it properly – you’ll just spend most of the day running around aimlessly. When you get organized there will suddenly be more time to spare and things will start falling into place.
23. Travel more and see the world: You’ll need to have your finances in order, get the right equipment and invest some time and effort before you consider traveling across the globe, but there are ways of experiencing different cultures and visiting faraway places even on a tighter budget. Regular checkups are a must, no matter how healthy you feel at the moment. If you’ve been putting off the annual check-up and it’s been awhile since you’ve been given a clean bill of health, you may want to resolve to going in for a doctor’s visit. Starting the year off without having to worry about a serious medical condition looming in the background is one way to make it great.

31. Spend less time on social media: Some people might not spend hours in front of the TV, or playing video games, but social media has become a serious addiction among a wide range of demographics. 38. Be Healthier This is one New Year’s goal that doesn’t produce many success stories. Why? It’s too vague. You can’t quickly quantify “being healthier” so there’s no way to hold yourself accountable later. Choose something you can measure more easily that falls under the healthy umbrella.

Stop Being So NegativeThe world is often a reflection of the way you’re feeling, and if you’re one to always point out the half-empty cups in life you probably aren’t having as good of a time as you could. It’s amazing how things start to get better once you start thinking more positively, but often we wait for conditions to improve before changing our mindset.
92. Go to Temple/church More (Get More Spiritual)Finding a deeper connection with a Higher Power tops many a New Year’s resolution list. Even if you’re not religious you can get more spiritual, and if you’re an atheist you can meditate more on the awesomeness of you
93. Stop Biting My NailsThis is one habit that it tough to break, and if you’ve tried to quit before it can seem doubly hard. Try starting up a new habit to replace this one, perhaps getting a weekly manicure to keep them looking too good to bite
94. Start a BlogThis is one way that you can start talking about the things you know, and it can end up providing a part-time or full-time income.
95. Create Special Times with Those Closest to MeIf you’re started to feel that your life doesn’t have the traditions and special moment that you remember having as a child, it’s up to you to start working them in. Some moments happen spontaneously, while other require a bit of planning.
96. Start Dreaming BiggerIt’s a lot of fun to dream about how you want your future to be, but always strive to grow your vision. As your life unfolds it’s important to challenge yourself to reach bigger and bigger goals.
97. Donate More Time or MoneyWe all want to give more of ourselves, either through volunteering to help the less fortunate or giving more financially. There are plenty of websites out there that can help you choose a worthy cause, and then follow up to make sure the funds are put to good use.
98. Talk to My Mom/Dad MoreYour parents miss you. Give them a call, they probably don’t get into this whole Facebook thing as much as you do, so you have to go the old fashioned way.
99. Spend Less Time OnlineWhen everything in your life seems to have an online presence, it’s sometimes hard to pry yourself from the computer. But it’s important to have real world interactions with the people that are most important to us. Start by logging your online time for a week and then decide what a reasonable cutback would be.
100. Become a VegetarianPeople cut out meat for several reasons, some because they don’t want to hurt animals, others because they don’t want to hurt the planet, and still others want to be healthier. Whatever your reason, the best way to approach it is to wean yourself off meat. Start by not eating meat for breakfast, then take it out of dinner, and finally remove it from your lunches.
101 – Start!Even if your resolution is to stop doing something, start stopping today. It’s easy to get caught up in the thinking part, but eventually you have to start doing what you said you’d do. There’s no time like the present, because it’s always right now, so start towards your goalright now. Best of luck, and Happy New Year!
