The# Day of the #Sun#Sonntag#Sunnandaeg#Nichi youbi

sunnandaeg (Anglo-Saxon)
sonntag (Germanic)
dies solis (Latin)
ravi-var (Hindu)
etwar (Islamic)
dimanche (French)
nichi youbi (Japanese)
Traditionally seen as the first day of the week by the ancient Hebrews and as identified by the fourth commandment (Exodus, xx, 8-11). This day was in ancient times dedicated to the Sun and later as 'The Lord's Day'. Sunday is traditionally a time for rest, reflection and worship.
It is believed to be a lucky day for babies born on this day according to tradition as the child was thought to be safe from witches and evil spirits. Some born on this day are believed to have psychic or devining abilities. Any cures that are administered on a Sunday were believed to be more likely to succeed.
In some parts of the British Isles (UK) there is a belief that announces that any agreements that are made on a Sunday are not legal as it will offend God to make any transactions of a day of reflection and dedicated to worship. In the USA this is enforced by the saying ' Never make plans on a Sunday'. In rural areas of the British Isles those employed for a new job on a Sunday would soon leave their post:

'Saturday servants never stay,
Sunday servants run away.'
It was also thought to be unlucky to put clean sheets on the bed on a Sunday along with cutting your hair or nails. Regarding music, choir singers who sang a false note on this day were according to a traditional English (UK) belief expected to have a burnt Sunday dinner.
You could expect a busy profitable week ahead, especially if you were in business, if you found a pair of gloves on this day, and quite naturally very unlucky to be the person who had lost them according to a rural English (UK) belief.
According to my father, “Sunday is the golden grasp that binds together the volume of the week.”
Whenever I had work on a Sunday I would automatically feel bummed out — sure I make an extra money an hour but Sundays are my favorite day of the week.
Here is my list of reasons why it should be your favorite day of the week too…

1. Sundays are for waking up, hour by hour….
What I mean is, on Sundays there is no rush. You can sleep in late. Now, don’t get sleeping mixed up with laziness because when I picture a Sunday morning, I picture the sun peering through my windows and feeling the dewy morning breeze bursting through my cracked windows.
2. Sundays are for the best types of food.
This is the best day in the week when you, your mates and your family are at their most relaxed and up for a lazy long chat over breakfast
BRUNCH! I don’t know about your house but in my house Sundays are the days that we all sit around the kitchen table at breakfast/lunch time…brunch time, with my witch Dolly under the table and stuffed paratha’s eggs, toast, orange Lassi, milk, and tea are poured into your glass.
3. Sundays are for music.
Well everyday is a day with music in my life… but Sundays are the days where I open my shades and listen to songs like Jagjeet singh, Lata, Kishor Da, Mukesh. I feel as if Sundays are the days we listen to the music that speaks from our hearts.
4. Sundays are for Gurudawara.
If you’re like me, Sundays are for Gurudawara. Whether you go to Church or Gurudawara or Mandir because you believe or because you feel as if you have to… Gurudawara is a place where you can sit and think. Yes, listen to the priest and the readings but sometimes, I get lost in thought in Gurudawara and it almost feels perfect because it feels like I am letting all my thoughts out with not only myself but with God.
5. Sundays are for B’s!
Sunday is for the three B’s for most men… booze, bars, and bros. If you are from North India, four B’s: Bears, booze, bros, and bars.
6. Sundays are natural.
Ladies this one is for you, the day of no makeup: allowing your skin to breathe.
7. Sundays are for peace.
Sundays are the days you can go to your nearest coffee house and just loiter. Drink that one cup of coffee, kick your feet up and people watch. Sundays are the one day a week where all the events, errands, work, and stress can just sort of be swept under the rug until tomorrow…”MONDAY”
8. Sundays are for newspapers
“Woah” a newspaper? Who reads printed journalism anymore? But honestly, Sundays are the one day a week we can appreciate print. Whether you like crosswords, comics, sports sections or just you just like the smell when you open it; newspapers still exist… I know…its hard to imagine anyone from my generation ever touching one.
9. Sundays are for family.
Sundays are the days of the week where you don’t need to go out a celebrate “sunday fun day” because you already had Wasted Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday, F*cked Up Friday, and Sloshed Saturday. Trust me, hanging in one day a week won’t ruin your life but maybe even help you appreciate it.
10. Sundays are for deep breaths.
Sunday mornings are a great time to spend a few minutes in meditation, yoga or use this quiet time to review the previous week and plan the next seven days. Reflect on the learning’s and the lessons to come. Just Breathe.
11. Sport - any kind
Sunday is the day for sport, whether it's on TV, gathering at a mate's place or at the game itself, this is the time to start watching. It doesn't matter what, just do it, you may even enjoy it
12. Sunday night TV
There's nothing that takes the dull ache off going to work more than sitting around watching Commady with Kapil. The completion show’s or Big Boss. Even if you don't like any of these shows, Aaj ki rat hai Jindgi is enough of a draw card to make most of the people at least look forward to this time of the week.
13. Sitting around in your PJs and nightgown
You've had a hard week and don't need to go anywhere so why bother getting dressed? There's only one other day in the week you can get away with that and the guilt sets in if it's a Saturday. So with that in mind, hold the shower and revel in your nightclothes. It's a day of rest so grab the blanket and pillow, lie back and get the remote ready.
14. Have a tea and read a book
Often neglected, this pleasure is often reserved for the bus going into work or while waiting at the dentist or doctor's surgery. But why wait for an excuse? Put the kettle on and warm up your favorite seat and get familiar with your favorite author.
15. Spend the day cooking, cleaning and getting organized for ... Monday
OK this might not be everyone's idea of a great Sunday, but knowing all that boring stuff is out of the way for the week ahead means you can spend more time doing lots of the stuff above.
